Los valores transmitidos de la abuela a la madre, de la madre a su hija, y de generaciones pasadas a generaciones presentes y futuras es un legado fascinante.
La maternidad y los conceptos y expectativas alrededor de ésta, son muy variantes porque dependen de la filosofía y psicología que gobierna cada período histórico.
Desde el período neolítico hasta el Internet, se ha considerado a la madre como: diosa, tradicional, puritana, sacrificada, mala, egoísta, inútil y “super woman”. Diversas religiones acentúan la maternidad y la idealizan de diferentes formas.
Para celebrar mayo, mes de la Virgen María y del Día de la Madre, en esta edición de Ventana Mágica hablaremos de la historia y los mitos de la maternidad, de su evolución a lo largo de la historia, y de la madre actual. Abrimos también un espacio para hablar sobre la triste realidad de madres, que tienen que abandonar a sus hijos para venirse a este país en busca de prosperidad para su familia. Esta edición nos enseña sobre la maternidad en muchas de sus dimensiones.
Changes in the mother’s image
The values transmitted from grandmothers to mothers, from mothers to daughters and from past generations to present and future generations, is a wonderful legacy.
Motherhood and the concepts and expectations around it are very diverse, as they depend on the philosophy and psychology applied in each period of history.
From Neolithic times to the Internet, mothers have been seen as: Goddess, traditional, pure, sacrificed, bad, selfish, useless, and superwoman. Many religions focus on the idea of motherhood and idolize it.
To celebrate May, which in the Latino community is the Month of the Virgin Mary, and in every community is the month of Mother's Day, in this issue of Ventana Mágica we talk about the history and myth of motherhood, its evolution through history and mothers of today. We also talk about the sad reality of many mothers who have to abandon their children to come to the US looking for a better future for the family. This issue will teach us about motherhood in many dimensions.
